Mattias Tromp has been riding horses since he was old enough to get into a saddle. Through lead-line, children’s jumpers and juniors, he has now advanced to the Young Riders and Grand Prix levels.
In 2012 Tromp made an impressive first appearance at the North American Young Riders Championships where he was part of the Gold-medal winning team aboard Vosqinas, and finished in seventh place individually. He repeated the feat at the 2013 North American Young Riders Championships, this time aboard Casey, where he improved his individual placing to fifth.
Tromp officially began competing in internationally recognized competitions in 2013 at Old Salem. His 2014-2015 season included competing at WEF and the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg.
2016 brought great success for Tromp with various trips to the winner’s circle. He won at the North Salem CSI2* with KM Whatever RV which was followed by two wins, including the Grand Prix, at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival CSI2* with Avon.
At the Hampton Classic, Tromp topped a field of 41 entries from five nations to win the $50,000 Longines Cup. He also took sixth place in the $10,000 SHF Enterprises 7 & Under Jumper class as well as ninth place in the $10,000 Brown Harris Stevens 7 & Under Jumpers, both aboard Fantom. Later that fall, Tromp and Avon won two classes at Devon, clinching the $5,000 Speed Stake as well as the $25,000 Devon Fall Classic. At Harrisburg, he and KM Whatever RV took fourth place in the $20,000 U25 Jumper Classic, and 9th place with Avon in the $40,000 PA Big Jump CSI3*
Tromp has had a great start to 2017, beginning with several top placings at HITS Ocala. He and Avon edged some of the nation’s top riders to take second place in the $41,200 HITS Jumper Classic CSI4*, and the pair also took fifth place in the $50,000 HITS Grand Prix at Ocala IV. He also took sixth place in the $50,000 Equioxx Grand Prix at HITS Ocala Week II, this time with Apart.
At the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows, Tromp and Avon took seventh place in the
$130,000 Empire State Grand Prix CSI3*, and he earned 10th place with Contessina Della Caccia in the $35,000 Old Salem Farm Jumper Classic CSI3*
