Ilan Bluman was born in Medellin, Colombia. He started riding at age 3, and by age 7 he started to compete in the jumpers. Ilan had a lot of success in the children and junior jumper divisions, where he was Colombian National Champion multiple times. He won all four gold medals in the Colombian Nationals Games – part of the Olympic cycle – and turned professional in 2008.
Bluman successfully balanced his professional career while in college in Medellin, and graduated in 2011 with a degree in Agriculture Administration.

Bluman began competing at FEI-rated shows in 2012. Since then, he has earned top results at top venues including Angelstone in Ontario, Canada, Live Oak International in Ocala, Florida, the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, Florida, Tryon International Equestrian Center in Tryon, NC, American Gold Cup in North Salem, NY, and the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA, to name a few.

Bluman scored his first FEI victory in 2016 at the Split Rock Jumping Tour’s Bourbon International CSI3*, where he and “Ladriano Z” topped a five-country jump-off to win the $40,000 Amalaya Investments CSI 3* Grand Prix.

At the 2019 WEF, Bluman was part of the fourth-placed Colombian Team in the Nations Cup CSIO4*. At the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival, Bluman and “Eax Run Run LS” galloped away with the tricolor in the $35,700 Welcome Stake CSI3* after producing the fastest double-clear ahead of a large 16-horse jump-off.
In 2015, Ilan and his cousin, Daniel Bluman, a two-time Olympic veteran (formerly of Colombia and now riding for Israel) created Bluman Equestrian NY, which is based out of North Salem, in Westchester, NY. His youngest brother, Mark, also competes at the international level.
