"We are proud to welcome back the LIHSSRD Championships here at the Hampton Classic," explained Shanette Cohen, Executive Director of the Hampton Classic Horse Show. "It is an amazing opportunity for the riders in the Series to compete here at the Classic amongst some of the world's best equestrians. We are proud to host them and we thank Bridgehampton National Bank for its continuing sponsorship of this fabulous event."
The Long Island Horse Show Series for Riders with Disabilities was founded by four individuals, including Katie McGowan of HorseAbility, Inc., to provide riders with disabilities the same competitive experience that other equestrians enjoy. Riders are judged on equitation, and demonstration and knowledge of riding skills. The LIHSSRD competition at the Hampton Classic is the culmination of the organization's eight-show series that started in 2006 and has continued since. Therapeutic riding students are able to experience physical, emotional, and mental rewards. For the first time, the most advanced competitors in the LIHSSRD Finals will have the opportunity to jump as part of the testing.
The Hampton Classic features 6 show rings, a Boutique Garden with more than 70 vendors, and a wide selection of dining options, on its 60-acre show grounds. The Classic's world-class equestrian competition attracts many of the nation's top professional and amateur riders including Olympic medalists.
The Hampton Classic Horse Show, running from August 24-31 in Bridgehampton, NY, features more than 100 classes of competition for horses and riders of all levels of experience. In addition to the LIHSSRD classes for riders with disabilities, the Classic is highlighted by Grand Prix and open jumper classes showcasing Olympians and Grand Prix veterans and a wide array of hunter, jumper and equitation classes. The highlight of the week is the $250,000 Hampton Classic Grand Prix & FEI World Cup Qualifier presented by Land Rover on Sunday, August 31 which serves as a qualifying competition for the 2015 Longines FEI World Cup Final in Las Vegas, NV next April. The Hampton Classic's Grand Prix is part of the Taylor Harris Triple Crown Challenge which awards a $200,000 bonus should the same horse-and-rider combination win the $100,000 Grand Prix of Devon, $250,000 Hampton Classic Grand Prix presented by Land Rover, and the $250,000 National Horse Show Grand Prix.
