Colvin Rides To Four Top Ribbons in Hampton Classic's Hermes Hunter Classic
Way Cool emphatically scores the top prize.
Bridgehampton, N.Y., Aug.30. 2015 - There hasn't been much at the 40th Annual Hampton Classic that Victoria Colvin hasn't won. She rode more than a dozen horses in the show, and on the last day she added first, second, fourth and fifth places in the $10,000 Hermes Junior/Amateur-Owner Hunter Classic to her long list of accomplishments. The Hermes Hunter Classic was the show's final hunter class.
She took the blue ribbon with Way Cool, the red Ribbon with Small Affair, the white ribbon with Ovation and the pink ribbon with Canadian Blue.
Way Cool, a chestnut gelding, was the unquestionable winner of the Hermes Hunter Classic, scoring 92 points in the first round and then confirming the victory with an astounding 98 in the second round, for a total of 190 points. Small Affair scored 90 and 95 points to finish 5 points in his wake.
After the Hermes Hunter Classic, Colvin, 18, received the Kathy Scholl Memorial Trophy as the best rider in the Junior Hunter divisions and the Gordon Wright Cup as the leading junior equitation rider. This was Colvin's fifth consecutive win of the Scholl Trophy and her second win of the Wright Cup.
"Way Cool is, I think, one of the best horses I've ever ridden. He has an amazing jump, and he never pins his ears. He just pricks his ears, and they never change. He's really one of my favorite horses to ride," said Colvin, of Loxahatchee, Fla.
"Small Affair is one of my newest rides," added Colvin. Small Affair refused his first jump at the Hampton Classic, in the first Junior Hunter round on Thursday. "He was a little shaky in the first round, but then he came back in this class and was amazing. I think the more color, and the more life in the ring, the better he jumps. "
Before winning the Hermes Hunter Derby, Colvin also collected the championship ribbon in the East Coast Young Jumper Championship for 7-Year-Oldason the Grand Prix Field. Her mount was Austria 2, owned by Take The High Road LLC.
