Aylsworth Crowned Hampton Classic's Grand Children's Hunter Champion

Children's divisions take over the hunter rings.

Scarlett Lee Aylsworth of New York City rode Alamo to the Children's Hunter Grand Championship at the 39th Annual Hampton Classic. En route to the grand championship among the seven divisions, Aylsworth, 14, and Alamo clinched the tricolor in the Children's Hunter Horse, 14 & Under, Sec. B.

Aylsworth, a sophomore at Birch Wathen Lenox School in New York, has been riding Alamo since February. She leases him from owner Mariah Friedland, who is in college. Friedland rode and showed Alamo during the summer, though, so the Hampton Classic was Aylsworth's first show with the chestnut gelding in a couple of months.

Hampton Classic's Footing Gets Rave Reviews

Grand Prix Ring's Bank Needs More Settling and Will Not Be Used This Year

The Classic went to great lengths to improve its footing following last year’s horse show. It was used for the first time on Sunday and was complimented extensively by riders and trainers.

However, following the $50,000 Clear Channel Hunter Derby, the lone class held in the Grand Prix Ring on opening day, it was determined that the Grand Prix Ring's new Derby Bank needs to settle more and, in the interest of safety, will not be used during the rest of this year's horse show.
